Recently I have been looking at doing more maritime art. The Tanzanian coastline has stunning azure water and the billowing sails of the dhow seemed to find me.
When you look at these dhows, the men and women that work on them must be left in no doubt how haphazard their construction to be. A spare sail is slung over the side of the boat and strapped on. Spare masts are also lashed to the deck. Despite the hazards, these men and women risk their lives regularly to make a living. In this painting four crew work the waters off Tanzania.
